Food for Montgomery

The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission, a division of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, is honored to receive funding for our project to build the capacity of local farmers markets so they can more effectively reach and serve customers that rely on federal nutrition benefits, thereby increasing access to healthy food from local farmers from the Greater Washington Community Foundation.

In partnership with FRESHFARM and Crossroad Community Food Network, this Food for Montgomery project will further empower food-insecure Montgomery County residents by providing technology and technical assistance to farmers markets throughout a transition to electronic currencies and support the creation of a full time contract position to manage implementation. Together, we can meet the urgent need for fresh, healthy food in Montgomery County and support local farmers and producers by building community resilient food systems.
